The Compass for a Lifetime: Our Oath, Law, and Motto

At the heart of every Scouting America adventure are three powerful guides: the Scout Oath, the Scout Law, and the Cub Scout Motto. Together, they form the moral and ethical compass that directs our youth as they grow into responsible, caring, and capable leaders.

The Oath is a solemn pledge that unites every Scout. It’s a personal commitment to:

• Duty to God and Country: To be faithful to spiritual principles and loyal to one's community and nation.

• Duty to Others: To help other people at all times, putting their needs before our own.

• Duty to Self: To strive to be physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight.
  

By reciting and living the Oath, Scouts make a conscious promise to uphold these ideals in their daily lives.

The scout law are not just words to memorize; they are a blueprint for action. They teach young people what it means to be a good friend, a thoughtful citizen, and a person of integrity.

For our youngest members, the message of the Cub Scout Motto is clear and direct: "Do Your Best."

This motto sets a positive and achievable standard. It teaches Cub Scouts that success isn't about perfection, but about putting forth their utmost effort, learning from setbacks, and taking pride in their own personal growth—in everything from building a pinewood derby car to helping a friend.

A Unified Journey

From the Cub Scout who "Does Their Best" on their very first hike, to the Eagle Scout who lives the Oath and Law in their career and community, these principles are the foundation of our program. They are the timeless tools we use to prepare young people to make ethical choices and build a better world.
